Weekly Tai Chi Classes in Tucson
Old Pueblo Tai Chi continues to offer beginner-friendly classes centered on balance, breath, mobility, relaxation, and mindful movement.
These classes are designed to be welcoming and accessible, especially for beginners, older adults, and anyone looking for a supportive, health-focused approach to Tai Chi.
April Focus: Eight Pieces of Brocade (Ba Duan Jin)
For the month of April, we will continue practicing the Eight Pieces of Brocade, also known as Ba Duan Jin. This classic set is known for its gentle, approachable structure and its ability to support posture, coordination, circulation, breathing, and calm presence. It is one of the most recognized foundational practices for developing body awareness and steady movement.
Ba Duan Jin is especially valuable because it can meet students where they are. It offers something meaningful to those who are just beginning, while also giving returning practitioners plenty of depth to explore through refinement of breath, alignment, and intention.
I also wanted to share an exciting update about my continued development as an instructor. In the coming weeks, I will be continuing my training in Sun style Tai Chi as I prepare for the upcoming Tai Chi for Arthritis (TCA) and Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention (TCAFP) instructor qualification workshop.
This training is especially meaningful because Sun style Tai Chi is known for its gentle, upright, flowing movements and its accessibility for a wide range of people. It is often appreciated for its emphasis on balance, coordination, mobility, and confidence in movement, making it a strong fit for many students, including beginners, older adults, and those looking for a supportive entry point into Tai Chi.
I’m grateful to be learning with and from people here in Tucson who are helping support this next step in my journey:
What excites me most is not only learning something new, but eventually being able to bring it back to our community. Once I complete the certification process, my hope is to thoughtfully integrate elements of Sun style Tai Chi into Old Pueblo Tai Chi’s offerings so the program can continue growing in ways that are welcoming, practical, and beneficial for all.
Old Pueblo Tai Chi has always been about more than learning forms. It is also about building a community of practice, encouraging one another, and creating space for health, presence, and connection. I see this training as an extension of that shared path.
Join Us for World Tai Chi & Qigong Day 2026
One of the highlights of the month is World Tai Chi & Qigong Day 2026.
This annual event is held on the last Saturday in April and brings people together across the world through the shared practice of Tai Chi and Qigong. It is a celebration of health, peace, mindful movement, and community connection.
For our local Tucson community, it is also a chance to gather outdoors, practice together, and be part of something that links us with practitioners around the globe.
